Adams Diagnostic Imaging Center provides nuclear imaging services for Gettysburg and all of central Pennsylvania. Our radiology team uses nuclear medicine diagnostic imaging for Gettysburg doctors, providing high-quality images using the latest technology to help diagnose and treat disease.
What Is Nuclear Medicine?
Unlike other imaging modalities, nuclear medicine focuses on the physiology of your body rather than the structure. Tiny amounts of a radioactive isotope are bound to specialized molecules that your body uses in its normal functions and are then imaged with a specialized instrument called a gamma camera. Nuclear medicine is the only imaging modality that can look beyond what you would learn from a simple picture and allows your doctor to see exactly how well your body is functioning.
What Should I Expect?
Nuclear medicine is capable of imaging a wide range of your bodies functions, from how healthy your heart is to how well your kidneys are functioning. Your technologist will go over the specific details of your exam with you, but in general, a simple IV injection of the tracer is all that is required to get the information your doctor needs to know.
Unlike many other imaging modalities, the gamma camera used in nuclear medicine does not fully enclose the patient. Two large rectangular panels will be positioned over the area your doctor is interested in and may either slowly rotate around you or remain stationary depending on the exam ordered.
Why is it Far Less Expensive at Adams Diagnostic Imaging?
Adams Diagnostic Imaging is a fraction of the cost of any other imaging center in Gettysburg or surrounding areas. Just like our competitors, our camera is accredited by the American College of Radiology, our technologists are nationally certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and our radiologists are all board certified. Unlike other imaging centers, however, your scan isn’t paying for staff and management that isn’t part of your care. This policy allows Adams Diagnostic Imaging to provide truly affordable, state of the art diagnostic imaging for you and your doctor.
